The main drawback of this movie is the sledge hammer over the head approach of the producers to, literally, pound home their intent. God. Could have been much more entertaining had this NOT been the movies main objective. This was highlighted by the repeated nightly prayers (we get it already it's a Christian movie!) and the music montages all about the message. Tiresome.
A second problem was the potential for untold story that was left on the cutting room floor. Such as Charlie and his wife discussing having Rose and Katie coming to stay with them when Charlie (presumedly) discovers the two are living in a junked out old car (instead of him showing up at the hospital and then BOOM the two are moving in). Or the phone call involving Charlie and his estranged son reconnecting after years apart. That could have been emotional gold. But instead we got repetitive scenes with Katie making faces in the bathroom mirror, nightly prayers that seemed to last forever and extended music montages that only served AGAIN to pound home a message that was quite clear after about 20 minutes of the movie.

The kind of silly, goofy, feel good film that makes you wish you could spend Christmas with this family. Great performances from the leads, Sierra McCormick and Brighton Sharbino, made the whole 'teenagers switching lives' plot line work. Of course it didn't hurt that the casting was so pitch perfect with Shelly Long as Grandma Judy and Bo Derek as the better-than-you Elsa Gentry. Veteran actor Christopher John as Grandpa Bob was also a hit. This is a movie that I'd say I'll be watching again.

A thoroughly boring movie with a paper thin plot that made little sense. Elle Fanning, who is way better than this, is wasted in the starring role as a shy teenager wanting to be a pop-star. Elle can sing delightfully and the musical numbers are solid but the rest of the film is so slow, plotting and filled with dialogue you can barely hear that it's a slog to get through.
